PRACTICALLY MEDIEVAL Vintage Denim Shirt
Before heraldry decayed into corporate iconography, an insignia across the spine was a matter of feudal loyalty, divine provenance, or pure territorial posturing. "PRACTICALLY MEDIEVAL" revives that pageantry by anchoring original watercolor sketches of twisting, illuminated manuscript ribbon down the right front and center back of an unapologetically utilitarian workwear canvas. Featuring an undulating scrolls rendered in celestial lapis, gold leaf, a watchful silver crescent moon, and ornate ceremonial tassels, the artwork brings the solemn theatricality of 14th-century liturgical banners into modern daylight.
Set against a stone-washed, 320 gsm denim base, the graphic creates an intentional friction between working-class normcore utility and monastic ornamentation. The drop-shoulder cut and relaxed boxy drape offer substantial architectural ease, transforming a routine denim button-up into an armored vestment for navigating feudal social structures, gallery openings, and casual daily skirmishes.
The Artwork: Monumental placement of expressive original watercolor illuminated manuscript-style scrolls, straight from JFA’s personal sketchbooks, featuring intricate shading in cobalt and emerald, gilded borders, a celestial crescent moon, and dangling decorative trailing tassels.
The Canvas: 320 gsm (9.4 oz) heavyweight woven denim engineered from 70% cotton and 30% polyester, offering structured durability, balanced breathability, and natural drape.
Surface Treatment: Authentic vintage wash treatment delivering subtle seam abrasion, dimensional fading, and a softened hand-feel.
Silhouette & Proportions: Relaxed, loose cut built with dropped shoulders and a balanced rear box pleat for unrestricted movement.
Shirting Hardware & Details: Classic spread lapel collar, full-length button-front closure, single chest patch pocket, adjustable button cuffs, and a curved hemline.
Seasonality: Built for versatile multi-season layering across spring, autumn, and unheated historical archives.
Provenance: Illuminated graphic concept and silhouette curation by Jon Fulton Adams.
